POLICY TITLE: LEAVE OF ABSENCE

RESCINDS: SEC. 7.37

1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide the opportunity to take a leave of absence from the District in order to sustain future services of qualified members.

2.0 MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING MAY REQUEST LEAVE OF ABSENCE

A member may request a leave of absence not to exceed one year provided the member has been an active member of the Department for a minimum of 2 years.

3.0 THE FIRE CHIEF MAY GRANT LEAVE OF ABSENCE

The Fire Chief at his or her discretion, may grant leave of absence at the request of members. All such leaves of absence shall be recorded in the member’s personnel file.

4.0 MEMBERS MAY BE GRANTED ACTIVE STATUS

Any member granted a leave of absence shall be added to the active roll if they elect to return on or before the expiration of their leave. Medical leave shall not be the same as a leave of absence.

5.0 MEMBERS SHALL BE EVALUATED PRIOR TO RESPONDING

Any member that is on a leave of absence for a period of more than 30 days shall be evaluated prior to responding on emergency incidents or operating Department equipment. Each member is required to complete the assigned training within a specified period of time based on the length of leave and the amount of training to be completed
