POLICY TITLE: MEDICAL RECORDS OF EMPLOYEES

1.0 PURPOSE

To provide guidance to management and staff of Yakima County Fire District 12 concerning the privacy of medical records which involve employees of the District.

All divisions.

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

4.0 POLICY

Yakima County Fire District 12 will, to the extent required by law, protect medical records it receives about members in a confidential manner. Generally, only those with a need to know the information will have access to it, and even then, will only have access to as much information as is minimally necessary for the legitimate use of the medical records. All records will be kept in a locked storage cabinet. Employees have the right to review and receive copies of their records upon request.
