POLICY TITLE: EMPLOYEE IDENTIFICATION

1.0 PURPOSE

To provide a means for the citizens of the Fire District to identify individuals as employees of the Fire District.

2.0 DEFINITIONS

Personal identification card = A 2X3.5 laminated card with employee photo, name, rank, employee number and fire chief signature for validation.

Vehicle identification sticker = 3X9 adhesive sticker for the front of vehicle. Identifies vehicle as being owned by a volunteer fire fighter for Yakima County Fire District #12.

Window Decal = 3X4 adhesive decal of Fire District logo for display in rear window of employee’s vehicle.

3.0 The District will provide a wallet sized identification card to all employees of the District. The ID card will include a picture, name, rank and employee number. Each ID card will be validated with the Fire Chiefs signature.

4.0 Employees of the District may display a vehicle identification sticker/plate on the front of their personal vehicle. This identifies the vehicle as being owned by a firefighter of Yakima County Fire District #12. Employees must successfully pass their probationary period before requesting vehicle identification. One (1) sticker/plate for employee owned vehicle.

5.0 Rear window decals are available for each employee owned vehicles. The decal depicts the Fire District logo. It is to be displayed on the rear window only. Rear window decals are available to employees on successful completion of their probationary period. One (1) decal for each employee owned vehicle.

6.0 When an employee no longer owns the vehicle, all identifying decals or stickers must be removed and returned to the Chief. New vehicle identification will be reissued for a new vehicle. It is a criminal offense to display firefighter identifications when not employed by Fire Department or District.

7.0 All identifying cards, decals and stickers are the property of the Fire District. They are to be issued and accounted for like all other District property. When an employee retires, resigns, or is terminated all identification decals, stickers, and I.D. card are to be returned.

8.0 At no time is any District property to be traded or sold by any employee of the District. The displaying of District property is a privilege of employees of the District only. Any misuse of employee identification or misrepresentation as a Fire District employee will result in suspension or dismissal of employee. Any person displaying Fire District identification that is not an employee can face criminal penalties.

9.0 Identification card, vehicle identification, and Department logo are to be issued by the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief reserves the right to withhold, recall, or suspend any District identification for any employee on a case-by-case basis.
