POLICY TITLE: RECORDS MANAGEMENT

REFERENCE: RCW 42.56, RCW 40.14 and WAC 414-24-060

1.0 PURPOSE:

The purpose of this policy is to identify the Department’s responsibility for maintaining public records.

2.0 PUBLIC RECORDS OFFICER

The District Secretary shall serve as the Public Records Officer. The Public Records Officer shall have the responsibilities of safekeeping all records according to the records retention guidelines.

3.0 ACCESS OF PUBLIC RECORDS

Access of public records, with some exceptions, is the right of the public. Public records may include vouchers, minutes of meeting, policies, contracts dealing with receipt or disbursement of fund, use or disposal of facilities and equipment, or other documents relating to the function of the Fire Department. Public records access is governed by Policy 1104.
