POLICY TITLE: DEPARTMENT PROPERTY

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to establish accountability of District property (assets).

1.0 All members shall exercise caution to avoid unnecessary damage or loss of Department property and shall be responsible for the safekeeping and proper care of all Department property in their charge. It is the Department's responsibility to provide safe equipment and see that it is used as specified by the manufacture. It is the member’s responsibility not to use any property that they are not properly trained or qualified to operate or use.

2.0 All members shall report immediately all accidents or damage to Department property to the Duty Chief. A Department Injury / Exposure / Accident form must be filled out and submitted to the Administration in a timely manner.

3.0 Under no circumstances shall Department property be loaned or borrowed or be permitted to be removed from premises to which it has been assigned or designated.

4.0 Any property of the District may be assigned to a member if the member has first received the station officer's authorization and /or the Fire Chief's authorization and such property is recorded in the logbook. The Department member authorized to the assigned property is responsible for such property and will replace or repair it if it is lost, stolen or damaged.

5.0 No property used or designated as first out emergency response is to be loaned or borrowed by Department members.

6.0 No Department member shall use any Department owned tools, equipment or materials in connection with any other employment in which he or she may engage.

7.0 All District property (assets) shall be properly identified by a tag or marking identifying it as Department property. An inventory of all property owned by the District is to be maintained and reviewed annually. Property that is lost, damaged beyond repair or becomes surplus will be so notated on inventory sheet.
